A31 Improving Access Service - new initiative to improve access to routine appointments

We are working with Bentley Village Surgery, Boundaries Surgery in Four Marks and The Wilson Practice as ‘The A31 Group of Practices’ to develop services and improve access to general practice for all local patients.

From 1 July, in addition to patients across 'the A31 Group' being able to book nurse/healthcare assistant (HCA) and GP appointments at one of the local surgeries until 8pm every weekday and between 8am and 10am on Saturdays (with the option of seeing a GP at Basingstoke Hospital (RG24 9NA) on a Sunday morning), there will also be GP and nurse/HCA appointments on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings between 7am and 8am at at least one of the surgeries, with the opportunity to arrange a telephone consultation in some of those morning, evening and weekend slots.  These sessions (apart from the Sunday ones) are staffed by doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants and receptionists from  the A31 Group of Practices.

We are grateful to all patients who responded to our recent survey on access and services to help us with planning these developments. In addition to the changes above, we are looking at how we can broaden the range of services on offer from our surgeries and we are developing a fact sheet to address the most common questions and observations raised through the survey.

The additional appointments outside of 'core hours' (8am -6:30pm Monday - Friday) are all ROUTINE APPOINTMENTS. The clinicians working in these clinics are not available for urgent or emergency medical needs or for home visits. Our telephone lines are handled by the NHS 111 service outside of core hours.

To book an 'A31' appointment, regardless of where it is being offered at, you still make the appointment through The Chawton Park reception (either on the telephone or in person).  This is because you need to confirm your consent to a clinician from another practice accessing your medical record before the information can be made available to them. For this reason, at the present time, these appointments cannot therefore be booked on-line
