Appointments System

The reception is open from 08:00 – 18:30. Appointments can be booked by firstly using our eConsult system (see below), if you are unable to use this please call reception.

Patients may see the doctor of their choice, although we would encourage you to see the same doctor for on-going problems.

Please attend your appointment on time and always check in on the touch screen or at the desk. The doctors will endeavour to see you on time. Occasionally a patient may have a problem that takes longer to deal with than in the allotted 10 minutes, or the doctor may have to deal with an emergency in-house or out at a home visit. Staff will endeavour to keep you informed if your appointment is going to be delayed.

eConsult

Do you know you are able to ask questions, seek advice and request a consultation via eConsult. Please click on the image opposite and follow the steps. Any requests that are sent to the Practice will be replied to within 48 working hours - Please do not use for urgent medical queries - please contact the practice on 01420 542542 or 111 outside of Practice opening hours.

If you need to speak to a GP or a member of the clinical team routinely, in the first instance please do complete an eConsult via the link below. If you are not able to do this please contact the Practice on 01420 542542 to arrange a telephone call.

Minor Injury Service

The practice offers a minor injury service between 08:00 and 18:30 Monday to Friday. We will treat any patient who is able to walk into the building who has had an accident during the last 48 hours.

Major casualties please go directly to North Hampshire Hospital, Basingstoke.

Touchscreen

We have a Touchscreen situated in the waiting room where patients can self check-in for their appointments. It is very easy to use; you just answer a couple of questions by touching the answers displayed on the screen. If you would prefer to still check in at the desk, the receptionists are always happy to help you.

Chaperones

If you would like to have a chaperone present during your consultation please let the receptionist or doctor know and this will be arranged for you.

Home Visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10:00.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Telephone Consultations

The doctors offer a telephone consultation service. Please call in before 10:00 for a morning call or 15:30 for an afternoon call.

The receptionist will take your details and a doctor will call you back. If, after talking to you, the doctor feels that they need to see you, you will be asked to come in at either 11:30 or 17:30 as an emergency appointment.

The nurses are always happy to give advice over the telephone. Please ring and the receptionists will take your details and a nurse will call you back as soon as possible at a convenient time between consultations.

Extended Hours

We have introduced additional opening hours for doctors and nurses on Tuesdays from 07:00 to 08:00 and Friday mornings 07:00 to 08:00, to enable people who work to pre book appointments outside normal working hours.

A new initiative is running across the Alton Area to try and improved access to evening and weekend appointments. Please click here for further information.

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else. You can do this by calling the Practice on 01420 542542 or via the online services if you are signed up to it.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.

Doctors in Training

The practice has been selected to train qualified young doctors in general practice; some of these doctors stay for 4 months, (foundation year 2, F2), and others for a year or more (Registrars ST1, ST2, ST3).

We hope you will feel able to assist in the training of these young doctors. Senior doctors in the practice supervise all their work.

As part of their training they are required to video a number of consultations and you may be asked by a receptionist whether you would like to take part. If you would prefer not to take part you are at liberty to decline.

Referrals

Hospital Referrals

We have close links with Alton Community Hospital (ACH) which offers Physiotherapy services, Hearing Aid Clinics, and a wide range of Outpatient Clinics with visiting consultants from Basingstoke and Winchester. X-ray facilities are available at ACH. If a doctor wants an emergency X-ray taken they will send the patient for X-ray. We have the PACS digital imagery system used by the hospital in the surgery so the doctor will get the result immediately often before the patient has had a chance to walk back to the surgery.
